Thomas Mitchell gave a speech to the State College Rotary Club which was reprinted in the Centre Daily Times, Thursday, 27 March 1941. He spoke about the history of State College beginning with the discovery of iron ore in 1784, the iron furnaces, the contributions of James Irvin, the Centre Furnace lands, the process of title transfer of lands, and that State College had no map of its lots on record (in 1941). He urged the Rotarians to endorse a map of town and to identify the old corners of property to establish true ownership of lots.
